Top 9 WoW Secrets
Filed under World of Warcraft Guides
World of Warcraft is full of easter eggs, secrets, hidden areas, and clever ways to make gold that few players know about. Some help you get rare pets, some let you see hidden content or lore, and some just help you make a few extra gold. Here are the Top 9 WoW Secrets.
9. The Chicken Quest
Go over to Westfall and find a chicken (any chicken will do) on Saldeans Farm. To unlock this secret you have to do the ‘chicken dance’ for the chicken a few dozen times. Set up a macro (Options, Macros, choose an icon and enter the command “/chicken”) and put the icon for the macro on your action bar. Once you hit the magic number of chicken dances, you’ll get this message: “Chicken looks at you quizzically. Maybe you should inspect it.” Inspect the chicken, accept the quest, then buy the special chicken feed from Farmer Saldean. Return to the chicken and type “/cheer” before feeding it and the chicken will lay an egg producing a rare WoW secrets pet - the prairie chicken!
If you’ve ever played a Hunter in World of Warcraft, you’re constantly on the lookout for a more powerful pet. Even though you may have become emotionally attached to that bear or panther you tamed at level 10, there are many creatures that make much better World of Warcraft pets than good old “Mr. Whiskers”.
Although some pets are better in certain situations than others depending on whether you want a tank or dps, there are a few animals that stand head and shoulders above the rest. Here’s a list of the Top 10 World of Warcraft Pets along with where they’re found, their ability modifiers, skills, and whether they make a better tank, dps, or general pet.
10. Nether Ray
Found in Outland, this WoW pet has a body much like a stingray with a long tail and two feathery plumes. It has crystalline growths and stripes running down its body, and all types are brightly colored. Nether Rays can be found in Netherstorm, Zangarmarsh, and Shadowmoon Valley (caster stats) with the Fen Ray from the Underbog as the only-non caster of this creature.
This WoW Mining Guide covers tips and tricks to find rare nodes, learn rare smelting skills, and make gold as you level your mining skill. Mining is one of the most useful World of Warcraft skills because ores and the jewels mining uncovers are used for so many crafting professions and therefore sell very well on the Auction House. If you’re looking for a profitable gathering skill, mining is the way to go!
9. Mining Skill from 65 to 125 in an Hour
One of the worst parts about leveling mining is when you are getting out of the Tin phase before the Iron phase. It’s hard to find a large quantity of Tin, and it becomes tedious farming it. The easiest way to level up to 125 is to go to the Wetlands and find Thelgan Rock (it’s near the entrance to Dun Algaz - location is 53,64). The cave there is full of spiders and Incendicite Ore that’s used for a quest (Alliance only). Unfortunately, the ore itself is worthless and only used to complete the quest but you can mine it from skill 65 until about 125. The nodes respawn quickly and you can level up your mining in less than an hour if you’re the only one in the cave. (You can also sell the Incendicite Ore on the Auction House to make a little extra gold in the process - get the quest from Pilot Longbeard in The Miltary Ward in Ironforge.)
Many World of Warcraft players will tell you that the easiest way to make gold is to gather raw materials and sell them in the auction house. I used to believe that too…before WoW Auctioneer.
Don’t get me wrong, raw material wholesaling isn’t a bad way to make a little gold but mining, skinning, and herb gathering can only take you so far. The amount of gold you can make is limited by how much time you can afford to spend hunting down resources.
If you’re trying to level, do things with your guild, or just relax while you play then you really don’t have the time or will to spend hours a day competing with everyone else for the rare resources that sell well in the auction house.
Enter WoW Auctioneer. Auctioneer is a free user interface add on that tracks items and auctions for WoW. It’s completely legal, well within Blizzard’s terms of service, and is literally a gold minting machine! In a nutshell, Auctioneer does a complete scan of the auction house when you visit and stores bid and buyout prices for every item being auctioned. After an item has been seen enough times at auction, WoW Auctioneer can give you a very accurate average price that the item sells for.
One of the best decisions Blizzard made when programming World of Warcraft was to open the user interface (UI) to allow players to create custom modules that can display various information about the world in new and creative ways.
World of Warcraft add ons let anyone with a little programming knowledge remake the interface of the game into their vision of what it should be and allow the rest of us easy access to tons of great information that wouldn’t otherwise be as easily available.
First, just in case you’re worried about violating the WoW terms of service for using add-ons, let me assure you that Blizzard has absolutely no problem with players using them. They won’t help you troubleshoot problems with add-ons should you install one that doesn’t work right but you’re free to use as many as you want to!
Here’s a top ten list of what I’ve found to be the most useful WoW add-ons:
Notice that this screenshot was taken before the other items in the backpack were auctioned off. In fact, this character is at the gold limit so these items need to be mailed to another character to auction because he can't hold any more gold.
I can make this kind of gold because I know what to farm, where to farm it, and what to buy and sell at the auction house for maximum profits in minimum time.
